Foster carers play an important role in helping children feel safe, settled and supported. With patience, consistency and encouragement, carers help children rebuild their confidence and begin to look forward to the future.
When you foster with South Coast Fostering, you will receive full training, financial support and ongoing guidance from an experienced supervising social worker. You will also become part of a supportive community of carers who understand both the challenges and rewards of fostering.

What do you need to Be a Foster carer?
The most important requirement for fostering is having a spare bedroom and enough availability in your day-to-day life to care for a child.
Foster carers need to be able to support children with everyday routines such as the school run, attending appointments, and being around during the school holidays. This means having a good level of flexibility and time to help children settle into a stable and supportive home environment.
Everyone’s situation is different, so even if you’re unsure whether fostering would fit alongside your current commitments, it’s always worth having a conversation with us.

Where are we recruiting?
We are currently looking for more foster carers who can care for babies across Southern England. There is a particular need in Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Surrey, London, Berkshire and Wiltshire.
Caring for babies can make an enormous difference at a very important stage in a child’s life. These placements often involve providing a safe and nurturing environment while important decisions are being made about the child’s future.

Emma and David’s Story
Emma and David live just outside Stockbridge and first started thinking about fostering after hearing a friend talk about it. They had a spare bedroom and felt they had more to give, but like many people they weren’t sure if fostering would fit around their lives.
Their first placement was a young baby who needed a safe place to stay while social workers worked with the birth family. What was meant to be a short placement lasted several months, and Emma and David quickly realised how important those early weeks can be for a child.
“At the start we were nervous,” Emma says. “But the support from South Coast Fostering was incredible. Seeing a child settle, start smiling and feeling safe in your home is something you never forget.”
Since then, Emma and David have continued fostering and say it has been one of the most rewarding decisions they’ve ever made.
