Foster carers needed in Fordingbridge
Fordingbridge is the smallest of the six market towns in New Forest district, sitting at the top of the Avon Valley with Salisbury nearer than Southampton. South Coast Fostering covers the town and the downland villages behind it, and children from here are placed by Hampshire County Council.
What do you need to be a foster carer?
A bedroom the child can call their own, kept for them rather than borrowed back at weekends. A crib in your room covers the first few months with a baby, but the bedroom still has to exist.
After that it is availability. Fostering runs on other people’s diaries: the school, the clinic, the contact venue, the review meeting. Carers out here tend to be people who can shift their own day around and who do not mind the driving.

Fordingbridge, Sandleheath, Godshill, Hyde and Breamore, then up onto the chalk to Damerham, Martin, Rockbourne and Whitsbury, south to Ibsley and Harbridge, and west over the Dorset boundary to Alderholt. A small pool, and it is not growing
New Forest District Council groups Fordingbridge with Bransgore, Ringwood and the downland villages of Damerham, Martin, Rockbourne and Whitsbury, and puts around 27,000 people in that whole area. The same council records something almost no other district in England can. Between the 2011 and 2021 censuses the New Forest lost population, from about 176,500 to 175,800, one of only 25 UK authority areas to go backwards.
