Fostering explained · Getting started

Can men foster?

Yes. Care, consistency and commitment are what matter. Here are a few things to think about.

Let’s talk about fostering No pressure. Just a conversation.

There is no single picture of a carer

Men can foster on their own or with a partner. You do not need to fit a particular idea of a family to start a conversation. The assessment considers the care you can offer, the time you have and the stability of your home.

Think about the everyday role

Fostering can mean cooking dinner, helping with homework, listening after a hard day and working with a child’s social worker. It also means being open to learning about the child’s experiences and the support they need.
